Using Cedega

Cedega can be launched from the Start Menu and can generally be found under the Games sub-menu. Cedega can also be launched from a terminal program using the command: cedega

Launching from a command line will often show extra log information that would not normally be displayed.

First Run

An active internet connection is required to complete the initial setup of Cedega. The first time Cedega is run the startup wizard will download and update all necessary components of Cedega. On installation, a Starter Kit will install program shortcuts and installation configuration files. On first launch, via the Start Menu shortcut or command line (by running 'cedega' in terminal window), the Starter Kit will download and install all necessary files for Cedega.

Single User Install

Installing in single user mode will save all settings and games to your home directory.

    $HOME/.cedega

We recommend this type of installation when there is only a single primary user or one account setup. If you wish to share game installations amid users on your Linux installation or if you want to change the default location where games are saved, we recommend performing a Multi-User Installation.

Multi User Installation

To perform a multi-user installation, the Cedega Online Starter Kit must run as a user with administrative privileges or using sudo.

    $ sudo cedega

During a multi-user installation you will be asked where on your system you would like to locate the Cedega files. Once entered, all files including installed games will be saved in the .cedega folder at this location.

During installation, a cedega user group will be created. Any users that belong to this group will be able to use the global installation of Cedega and and access those games. Be sure to add all users that need this privilege to the cedega group.

When a multi-user installation is complete you will need to log out and log back in to be able to use Cedega.

Installing a Demo

To install a demo click on the Demo tab inside of Cedega and click the installation button for the Demo you would like to play.

Playing a Demo

To play a demo select the Game Folder from the left pane of the Folders tab. Double click the Shortcut in the right pane to launch the demo.

Options and Settings

Game settings are applied using a layered method. Settings come from a combination of three layers: the Global Settings, a GDDB file and any per-shortcut settings that may be applied.

Global Settings

Cedega options can be modified using Edit -> Global Settings. Settings are applied to all games played unless overridden by the GDDB or using the per shortcut settings.

Game Disc Database (GDDB)

Supported games have a games disc database entry that include the best known settings for both installation and playing. The GDDB settings are applied on top of the global settings and take precedence. GDDB settings can be disabled by selecting None in the GDDB field in the installation dialog or the shortcut properties dialog.

Per Shortcut Settings

Per shortcut settings can be modified by right clicking the shortcut and selecting "Edit Settings for this Shortcut" or through the shortcut properties dialog (Edit Settings). The shortcut settings are applied on top of both the GDDB and global settings and override all other settings.
